Step Sisters: A Poetic
Dialogue on Race and Womanhood
April 19, 2007 -- It is
agreed that everyone in attendance was enthralled with the
lively, sometimes funny, always thought-provoking performance of
Glenis Redmond and Patricia Starek at the Greensboro Historical
Museum. These old friends shared wit and wisdom on topics
like body image, profiling, role models (and lack of!) and
grandmothers, just to name a few.

Monday Night Poetry
featuring Billy Jones,
April 16, 2007
One Monday per Month, and every Monday during April, the Central
Library hosts a poetry night like none other. There is
always a surprise. One or several published poets are
usually featured, a few few more will just show up, and an open
mic leave room for anyone who would like to share their work, or
their favorite work of another.

International Poetry Night
People from around the globe
now call Greensboro home. On April 4th, many gathered at the
Glenwood Branch of the Greensboro Public Library on Florida
Street to share music and poetry from their native
countries. The world was truly feeling a bit smaller in
this community meeting room. One of the highlights of the
evening was hearing Danny Glenn read St. Francis of Assisi's
poem, Make Me an Instrument of Your
Peace.

Glenis Redmond at GTCC
Glenis Redmon visited both campuses of GTCC. At the
Wendover campus, an audience of over 100 students and community
members were treated to the works of Amaris Howard and
Glenis Redmond at a Family Reunion styled event with food,
drinks and art showcase of GTCC's talented students.
Redmond is an Asheville
poet and dynamic performance artist. She tells stories with her
poems and teaches her audiences to claim their place in the
world and respect their own stories. Glenis has published a
full-length work of poetry entitled Backbone.
Amaris Howard is a Greensboro resident, a recent Aggie grad, and
a woman with a powerful message. She has a new cd coming
out entitled Black and Blue.
